Think back on all your forum experience, especially going to other forums.

What's the dumbest rules you've seen on message forums?

Trying to advertise your website, where you've found a plug your board section, requiring a button on the index page of said forum to be permitted to advertise. That is just plain stupid. But I can understand it. Just don't like it. xD

I agree.

Other than a top site, which historically was always how that worked.

But on a forum, yeah, if there is a promotion section, you shouldn't have to link back.

I always try to be really fair with my promotion sections.

I don't think I require a link back for anything or if I ever have to be honest.

I've always thought rules against linking to direct competition were silly. I think that helped hurt forums in all honesty. We should had stuck together rather than aggressively competed against one another.

No VPNs/proxies is a silly rule in this day and age in my opinion. You are missing out on many, many members if you attempt to enforce this rule. Browsing the Internet without a VPN is unwise considering all the companies that want to track you.
