How do you feel about the current state of forum software for modern use?

Do you think forum software lacks any specific features that keep them from being modernly popular?

Should forum software look more like Twitter and social media? Or does that take away from it?

How do you feel about the modern impressions of current active forum software?

I think forums are still to be considered popular. Granted, not as popular as before facebook and other social platforms. Before facebook all we had were forums, so it's only natural there was way more interaction.

But would you like to see any kind of overall change to make them stand out more in a modern online community crowd?
