Do you think many forum owners fail because they assume they'll have overnight success after creating their forum?

Most niches online are oversaturated by now. Because of that, it takes more than an overnight launch to get a forum going.

Some new forum owners get in there and think it will be a success from the get-go, and then when it doesn't happen and continues not to happen each day, they quit.

What do you think about that? Have you experienced this as a forum owner, even when you first started?

Absolutely, people haven't got the patience to run forums. It's very difficult to gain a user base and there will always be a lot of frustrating days but you have to see persevere and keep going.

True. Some people do not understand the concept at all. Neither have experience running one.

I definitely agree with the posts above.

It really truly is about having patience for something to grow.

Forums are like gardens.

You can buy an established forum (a plant that's already growing) and get the fruit sooner.

Or you start a forum from scratch (plant a seed) and wait for it to grow on its own.

They days of "build it and they will come" are LONG gone.
You have to have valid content for your niche, and that content needs to be pertinent to the here and now and fresh.
The downfall in my niche is some of the topical discussions are restricted by weather. That's readily apparent in a current review I have of a telescope/flattener setup that can only be tested over multiple nights of compilation of data. If your night viewing is for shite..you can't do much to validate/invalidate your suspicions.
