How long was you able to keep your forum on shared hosting before you had to upgrade to a VPS?

About 2 days... and got tired of HostGator and turned that gator into a wallet and kicked the rest of it's bleeding carcass to the curb.
The performance was WELL below what I expected... so it wasn't a "my site got to big" issue... but a "this hosting provider runs like a sloth" issue.

I remember being on Host Gator for a very short time. It was shared and I remember it wasn't very good.

DreamHost also doesn't have good shared hosting, or they didn't 15 years ago at least.

I use their VPS and it's mostly wonderful.

I didn't stay on shared for too long. I'd rather pay the higher costs for something that doesn't crash on a weekly basis.

So far, I've been VERY pleased with my Hetzner VPS. The nice thing it's large enough, I'm thinking about adding ElasticSearch to my site.
