I have an issue with making too many websites so it didn't take long for me to have to upgrade.

I've seen a few "modern" ones that I kind of enjoy the features of but not really for these types of forums.

I'd rather use those for community-based websites for established sites. I do a marketing blog for example, I'd use a modern community type to launch a paid membership site.

They are hard to handle when we get used to PHP based forums.

I did ask about this to the software authors across NodeBB, Discourse and other forums. They say that they can do a lot more than in PHP. That is the developer side though.

I like the conventional forum layout. But people are busy and have no time for a second click. Thinking that way, a content listing is helpful to get the forums going. Most of these modern layout forums offer category listing too, as an option.

I don't dislike the newer modern layouts.

I just see them as a different kind of community.

I get what you're saying though, totally. People are in a hurry.
