In todays age of almost everyone using ad blockers. It's one reason I refuse (and have for a decade) to run any ads on my site(s) that I run. If I want to monetize it, I will choose other methods of doing so.

I still earn from adsense on my blog. I actually earn a few hundred a month. But I post daily.

But I think it's not as effective as it used to be.

Google keeps requesting that I enable full page ads saying that it earns the most but man they're so annoying, I just can't do it.

I would agree with both of you as ads have certainly lost value due to ad blockers, but they are still a solid source of income. Although, I'd agree with @Tracy that alternative means of income are needed if you want to remain profitable.

I tried this once and it was the worse thing ever. Basically, they just stick ads in the middle of content, like 300px box ads right in the center of a paragraph lol.

Although, speaking of Google, they do seem determined to make Chrome ad-blocker free. I guess we will need to see how that works out long-term, but it may help some admins.

Yep, when I'm on websites that use that ad format, it almost enrages me LOL

I couldn't imagine doing it to someone else

Couple of hundred a month is pretty good! Every little helps 😁

Ads are probably going to drop is cost.

Media companies are laying off their employees because ad sales are dropping. It happens every time we have a negative shift in our economies.

When that happens, these companies will be forced to lower their prices.

What that happens, jump into it and start getting ads. Because the social and search consumption isn't getting smaller. People will still see those ads. But since they'll cost less, you'll have a better chance of getting seen as you spend more.

It might be a good time to reconsider what ads mean to you and your marketing strategies.
